Edo Govt places Surveillance Officers on Red Alert Over Coronavirus Outbreak.
To reduce the risk of further spreading the Novel Corona Virus in Edo State, the State government through the Ministry of Health has Commenced various surveillance on flashpoints in the state.
The measures taken by the state government is connected with the earlier confirmation case of the first reported outbreak in Lagos State by the Federal Ministry of Health Abuja.
Speaking during a press briefing in Benin City, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Patrick Okundia, Says government has activated a team to monitor events at the Benin Airport.
Okundia maintained that surveillance officers and sensitization of health workers across the health Facilities in the 18LGAs have commenced.
According to Dr Okundia, ” Edo State Government has already commenced Various activities.
“A team has been sent to the Benin Airport to get information on the manifest of the Airline that brought the Italian to the Country”.
“Sensitization of staff of the Benin Airport on the Screening Modalities of Air travellers have also commenced”.
“Surveillance Officers have been placed on red alert to carry out active cases. Health workers are always advised to observe standard infection preventive measures when attending to patients with travel history”.
He urged members of the public to apply caution when having any public engagement to avoid the spread of the disease, adding that, Emergency Operation Centres have been put in place to tame the global scourge from causing more harm.
Since the Outbreak in China of the disease, no curative or specific treatment caused by the virus has been proffered.
However, many of the symptoms can be subjected to treatment.
