The Economic Community of West African States Court of Justice has ordered Nigerian government to pay N88bn ($244 million) to Biafra for 1967 civil war.
The Court gave the order on Monday, October 30, 2017, according to Bloomberg report.
The money is to be given to the family of those affected by the 1967 Civil War after the government failed to clear the landmines and other explosives in the Southeast after the war.
Nigeria, according to the court verdict, must pay N50 billion as compensation to war victims and another N38 billion to the states government to rebuild properties damaged during the war.
The civil war stared in 1967 and ended in 1970 after millions of lives were taken and properties worth millions were destroyed in the nation’s Southeast.
