Dapchi abduction: Gov Gaidam’s allegation against loyal troops – Nigerian military

1 19

The Nigerian military has responded to the allegation by the Yobe State Governor, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Gaidam, Executive Governor of Yobe State, that the military should be blamed for the abduction of the 105 students from Government Girls Science Technical College in Dapchi.

Gaidam had alleged that the Boko Haram terrorist struck in the village after the Nigerian military withdrew its troops.

However, in its swift response, the military said the members were withdrawn to reinforce troops who were under attack by the terrorist in another location.

The Deputy Director Public Relations, Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole Col Onyema Nwachukwu said the allegation was against loyal troops in the troubled zone, describing it as misleading and misinforming.

Col Nwachukwu said “Contrary to the comments being circulated, troops earlier deployed in Dapchi were redeployed to reinforce troops at Kanama following attacks on troops’ location at the Nigerian – Nigerien border.

“This was on the premise that Dapchi has been relatively calm and peaceful and the security of Dapchi town was formally handed over to the Nigeria Police Division located in the town. Troops’ redeployment was therefore done in tandem with the exigencies of operation and not as misconstrued.

“It is thus obligatory, to state that the allegation reportedly attributed to the Governor of Yobe state is misleading and misinforming. It is astonishing and shocking that such unfortunate comment and allegation is been touted against the loyal and dedicated troops of Operation Lafiya Dole”.
