Fire yourself as Minister of Petroleum – Sani tells Buhari
The Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has asked the President, Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a credible minister of Petroleum Resources.
The senator made this call after a letter written by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ike Kachikwu’s letter to Buhari was leaked to the media, accusing the NNPC of corruption.
Sani asked Buhari to remove himself in order to promote accountability for the nation’s oil industry.
He opined that the President had limited time to oversee the oil industry.
Kachikwu had alleging acts of insubordination and humiliation by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru.
Based on the leaked memo, the Senate set up a committee to investigate Baru over allegation.
Sani wrote, “President Buhari should disengage from being a Petroleum Minister and appoint a substantive minister whom the nation can hold accountable to the happenings in the nation oil industry.
“The President position as a minister can drag him into issues in the oil sector of which he has limited time to attend to.
“A broom immersed in oil cannot sweep clean.”
