Reps demand stoppage of airports, others’ concession
The House of Representatives has urged the Executive arm to stop every process of concession, privatization and commercialization of any public enterprise that was initiated without the approval of a formally constituted and inaugurated National Council of Privatization.
The House said the ongoing plans to concession the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano and the Port Harcourt International Airport should be stopped.
The House also urged the Executive arm to ensure that any further concession, privatization and commercialization of public enterprises is in strict adherence to the provisions of the Public Enterprises (Privatization and Commercialization) Act, 1999.
Adopting a motion by Reps Mark Terseer Gbillah, Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas and Ochiglegor Idagbo, the House mandated the committee on privatization and commercialization to investigate the legality of the approval of the Federal Executive Council to engage AGIP for the rehabilitation and operation of Warri Refinery, concession of the narrow gauge lines to G.E of USA.
The committee is to report back to the House within two weeks.
