Executive Director, Centre for Global Solutions and Sustainable Development, Mr. Adebowale Adeniyi, has described the removal of subsidy at this time as insensitive and sudden.
He urged the Federal Government to return to “status quo” in the light of the harsh economic conditions being faced by Nigerians.
Adeniyi said, “The manner in which the federal government took this decision without wide consultation and adequate public enlightenment is highly condemnable.
“Subsidy is a very sensitive issue, and it is not something government can toy with without putting in place the necessary structures and palliatives.
“If government cannot urgently increase the minimum wage of workers, fix the forex, electricity, security, unemployment, economic challenges among others, it should not also be quick to remove the subsidy.”
