UK Group Petitions Boris Johnson To Ban Oshiomhole From Entering UK
A group in the United Kingdom has taken a keen interest in the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole.
The group, Voice Of The Enfranchised (VOTE) has petitioned the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson on the need to ban Oshiomhole from entering the country.
The petition, a copy made available to NAIJA CENTER NEWS was dated January 18, 2020, and titled “UK Travel Ban Against Mr Adams Oshiomhole”.
The group co-ordinator Chika Osondu who signed the petition alleged that Oshiomhole still has a case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The petition is urging the United Kingdom to activate its stance against corruption by banning the APC Chairman from entering the country.
“We are writing regarding the above-named person. Mr Oshiomhole is a politically exposed person, facing allegations of corruption by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in Nigeria. Mr Oshiomhole served as governor of Edo State for eight years.
“He was previously detained by Nigeria’s Department of State Services, over financial misconduct during the 2019 elections.
“He has a pending case with Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“In line with the UK Government policy on good governance and fight against corruption, we believe, that, it is counter-productive, to allow Mr Oshiomhole, who is facing corruption charges, to make the United Kingdom, a regular place of visitation.
“Mr Oshiomhole’s regular visit to the United Kingdom makes a mockery of your government stance against corruption.
“The graft is a major deterrent to private sector investment in the Nigerian economy. Watchdog Transparency International ranks Nigeria as one of the most corrupt nations in the world.”
Speaking with NAIJA CENTER NEWS on Monday, Mr Osendu explained that he is not anti-Oshiomhole as he is originally from the East of Nigeria, but the former governor of Edo State is the National Chairman of the ruling party that is not currently providing good governance to Nigerians.
In his explanation, Osendu said Nigerian leaders need to be accountable and Oshiomhole is the leader of the APC and must remain in Nigeria and face the consequences of his party bad governance.
