Thecable quoted a source as saying that the controversial lawmaker would formally declare interest in the November 16 governorship election in Kogi state.

The source said he declared his gubernatorial ambition at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) meeting in Aiyetoro Gbede, his hometown in Kabba local government area of the state.

“He (Melaye) has met with PDP leaders in Aiyetoro Gbede and informed them of his decision to run for governor. He will still make a formal declaration,” the source, who did not want to be named, said.

If he picks the ticket the PDP ticket, Melaye still has a tough nut to crack in Yahaya Bello, the incumbent governor of the state, who is seeking a second term.

Melaye has faced a series of travails in the hands of the police in recent times, it, however, remains to be seen how he is able to get to Lugard’s House.

“I am ready, I am willing, I just need the support of our elders. We should not lie to our elders and above all, I have consulted God. There is no network failure between me and God, any time I call upon him, he picks my calls and he doesn’t give me missed calls. “And more importantly, my mother joined the angels and together they are now backing me up.

“In view of all these, before my political elders and fathers and the entire Kogi West that are here and those that are not here, i formally announce my intention and decision to run for the governorship election in Kogi State.” the Senator said on Saturday.
